SeaView with Purser, Olivia Farmer

I grew up in Southwest Devon and our time was always spent outdoors walking, sailing and cycling. Sailing is one of my hobbies along with tennis, paddle boarding, hiking, yoga and spending time with friends and family in my down time or when I am on rotational leave.

I have always grown up in and around yachting, as my parents met and worked on yachts even before I was born. Initially I never thought of myself working on a superyacht although I liked the idea of working in and around the yachting industry.

Living in Devon and at the age of 21 at the time I finally moved to London and secured a job at Burgess in the charter management department, it was a role I thoroughly adored, and the company were magnificent to work for.

After working for Burgess for two years I decided to dip more toes further into the yachting pool and secured a position as a stewardess. Since 2016 I have been fortunate to work with excellent captains and crew on well-established and well ran superyachts. The knowledge and expertise shared over the years were second to none which enabled me to progress and work diligently to a very high superyacht standard.

In 2021 I decided to make a move in departments and crossed over to the administration side and became a purser. I would not have done this without the support and knowledge of Captains and crew I worked with along the way that shared information and skills creating a great team ethic.

I was lucky and still am grateful to have learnt a lot from my London days working for Burgess and now I am able to apply that knowledge to my purser role. Yachting is a fantastic industry which opens many doors and opportunities if you are ever thinking of joining the industry for the first time.
